The people who hate California are mostly people in the south, midwest and plain states. They hate California because save the coasts, the rest of the country is an soul-sucking, bore you to tears hell-hole. And California has better weather than the East Coast so it is hated more.

Oftentimes, Californians like to brag about CA (especially the climate/weather) as if they can't imagine anyone NOT wanting to live there. What many don't realize, though, is that while Mediterranean or overall mild climates are nice, many people do prefer the multi-season weather changes common in, say, the Northeastern states. "Well, here in SoCal it's 80 and sunny!" Californians are sometimes kind of cocky about their state, have an elitist attitude, etc. I know quite a few people from CA and while they do have these qualities, they are still very nice people and I'm close with a few. Just my two cents from personal experience.

It is helpful to know that California is a thousand miles long, and has all the weather types found in any other state, aside from the high humidity common to the East in the summer. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of Californias live in a climate similar to the North east states, without the long gray periods in the winter and the dreadful high humidity in the summer.

You are not the only person to confuse Los Angeles with California.

Apparently, people who live in flyspeck states such as NJ find it difficult to wrap their heads around the varied climactic conditions of the big states.

What a great Map! Thanks. They also have a hard time with, New Jersey looks like Maine looks like Georgia. In CA the diverse climates create diverse plant types, and of course the Geology varies considerably. A great book, Assembling California, John McPhee

I read Basin and Range. I'll have to put that one on my library list.
