The Diocese of Monterey has opened the cause for the canonization of Cora Evans, a convert from Mormonism.

"The Vatican is reviewing documents that would allow the cause of sainthood to go forward for a wife, mother, and possible mystic who was baptized Catholic in 1935 after becoming disillusioned with the Mormon faith.

Cora Evans reported visions of Jesus and the saints and a mission from Jesus to promote the 'Mystical Humanity of Christ,' the idea that Christ is always within us and we should behave always as Christ would, said Mike McDevitt, a parishioner at Our Lady of the Pillar in Half Moon Bay, who is the promoter of Evans’ cause of sainthood. The spirituality is also focused on praying the Mass."

This makes at least three potential saints for California, including the longstanding cause of Blessed Junipero Serra, and that of Fr. Aloysius Ellacuria of the Diocese of Los Angeles.

Are there others?

Personally I'd rather see Pee Wee Herman sainted.

So the road to sainthood includes seeing things that aren't there? Isn't that normally called psychosis?

She should have enslaved her own group of Indians to build Fem-Missions. Sainthood and feminism all in one!

I certainly think that there are saintly humans on the planet but i don't give the Catholic church any power (zero, zip, nada, none) to decide / tell me who they are! Absolutely not.

The whole concept of "Saints" in the Catholic Church is ridiculous. A saint is any believer in Christ. One also doesn't have to appeal to or pray to saints or Mary for intercession - Christ allows us access to God through him. That's what he came for. Also, no human being, regardless how holy, can have miracles attributed to him or her. Of course the apologists will saying when you pray to the saints or Mary you're merely asking them to pray to God for you, much as a friend or relative would, but in practice many Catholics venerate these dead people.

Oh, great. Yet another Catholicism-, religion-bashing thread. Y'all lack imagination. Come up with something new that insults another group why don't you. I mean, y'all's so perfect and all that and obviously know more than many millions of others.

Maybe it's time to start a thread bashing west coast fruits and nuts and tofu and sprout eaters then listen to you whine, moan and cry and post another thread about being hated. You're pathetic!

Oh great, another Catholic-promoting thread thinly veiled as California-centric. Move it to the religion forum where it belongs. Goddam mackerel snappers.
