Hey folks, thanks for responding so quickly! I think burning man is way too hardcore for me. It also looks as if it's a week long festival instead of a place where I could stay for a longer period of time? At Senno; I'm 26 and no hippie either. Actually I currently thrive on capitalism, just doesn't make me happy. Don't care much for smoking pot either, there's a shop here on every corner
Anyway, I googled Haight-Ashbury and Santa Cruz but can't find anything concrete. Looks like they're towns? Or are they campsites of some sort? Are there sites where I could sign up or anything or do I just go and live there and sit down at the first campfire I see with a circle of bearded men with guitars around it..?

Yeah it thins out pretty bad the following week. I've had thoughts of camping alone on the same spot in the Black Rock desert at some other times of year. Would be kind of a mind-blowing contrast.
You're about 40 years too late for the bearded folk with guitars around the campfire. They tuned out, turned off, and dropped in (to regular jobs and suburban humdrum). That said, you might find some remnants in Big Sur or the Gold Country.

Anyway, I googled Haight-Ashbury and Santa Cruz but can't find anything concrete. Looks like they're towns? Or are they campsites of some sort? Are there sites where I could sign up or anything or do I just go and live there and sit down at the first campfire I see with a circle of bearded men with guitars around it..?
