Dear people,

I live and work in Holland and am considering to make a trip for about 3 to 6 months to the US to "soulsearch" so to say. I'm looking for some kind new age community but with less of a focus on the spiritual and more on visual arts, music, writing whatsoever. It doesn't really matter where to be honest, it should just be some place warm. Is there any of you who might have a clue where I can find such a community?

Warm greetings,

Lawrence.

Oh boy, a hippie emergency. Or is it middle age crisis?

I'm pretty sure Cava1990 nailed it. Or a commune in northern CA if needed. Haight-Ashbury if you aren't that adventurous.

Please see Highnlite for directions to Burning Man and appropriate road cautionary stories. Lots of people lose their tires getting out there.

Gnarly, dude. Oops that's surfer.

Heyyy mannnn, take a walk on the wild side...

OK, proper mind set achieved. What's coming into focus is Santa Cruz. Arcata if you don't mind a bit colder and wetter.

Hey folks, thanks for responding so quickly! I think burning man is way too hardcore for me. It also looks as if it's a week long festival instead of a place where I could stay for a longer period of time? At Senno; I'm 26 and no hippie either. Actually I currently thrive on capitalism, just doesn't make me happy. Don't care much for smoking pot either, there's a shop here on every corner Anyway, I googled Haight-Ashbury and Santa Cruz but can't find anything concrete. Looks like they're towns? Or are they campsites of some sort? Are there sites where I could sign up or anything or do I just go and live there and sit down at the first campfire I see with a circle of bearded men with guitars around it..?

LoL.

Santa Cruz is a town.

Haight-Ashury is in SF and quite famous.

Pretty sure there's concrete stuff on the internets about those places.

You might also like Ojai.

Burning Man is only a festival.

Do you actually want a commune?

Yeah it thins out pretty bad the following week. I've had thoughts of camping alone on the same spot in the Black Rock desert at some other times of year. Would be kind of a mind-blowing contrast.

You're about 40 years too late for the bearded folk with guitars around the campfire. They tuned out, turned off, and dropped in (to regular jobs and suburban humdrum). That said, you might find some remnants in Big Sur or the Gold Country.

Sorry, gentlemen, I detest Burning Man, it is a festering boil set into a wild and beautiful landscape. Dragging tens of thousands of uber urbanite, clueless exhibitionists out to the Nevada desert makes me want to vomit.

They could hold it in a Costco Parking lot in Fremont the dingbats wouldn't care, just as they don't care about the treasure that is the Black Rock Desert.

I find it a joke, the guy responsible has made millions of dollars off "new age artists" trying to escape the corporate capitalist machine. That is funny.
