Anyway, just scanning commuting data I can see a path for the counties below eventually being combined into the Bay Area. Sacramento is strong a job market by itself, but we shall see.

In the meantime, Im thinking this is what's to come based on trends:

Sacto does kinda have a strange probiscis sucking you alls lifeblood though. Watch out for that.
That would be the Delta. And most those fish don't commute down to the salt water much on a daily work basis.

The threshold for combining is 15% of all workers in one metro commuting to jobs in another metro.

In 2000, 12% of San Joaquin County workers commuted to the SF Bay Area and in 2010 that soared to 18% well past the 15% requirement and so now the Office of Management and Budget has combined Stockton-Lodi with San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland.

So the Bay Area's population per the latest numbers is 8.256 Million, 5th largest in the nation.

The interesting part of that is the despite being 5th largest in population, the Bay Area now has the 3rd largest economy behind NY and LA.
Sorry, its not on page 9 but 109.

Y'all have some smart fish. I come down strongly against rush hour commutes myself as well.

I also kinda thought Sacto might be giving the ol' one finger salute to the Bay Area.

Dang, the White House said so, it must be fact.

Media types must be joyful for all the world. Now they have more stories to talk about and more local angles for everything that happens everywhere else.

Well, looky what I spy with my little eye. A person engaging in some internet media discussion to disdain people talking about stories in the media.

That's a strange criterion, if you ask me. There used to be jokes about Bay Area workers having to locate in Altamont to find affordable housing, and commuting from there. That wouldn't make Altamont part of the Bay Area.

Besides, the Central Valley Map criterion still holds, irrespective of others' decisions. Bay Area people decide who is Bay Area, not the the Federales, or any other outsiders.

I reject your ex post facto argument as you have already presented argument for opinion in the "Buying in the Bay Area" thread in the SF sub-forum.

The matter of Stockton as Bay Area is on the table.

Los Federales no esta aqui. Como se dice "sanctuary city" in espanol?

I loosely consider everyplace connected to Bay water as Bay Area -- even Sacramento (yeah, I know it ain't). If I can go there on my boat, it's Bay Area. But I don't consider Stockton part of the Bay Area. Just on principal mind you. That and cause my boat refuses to go to Stockton. Mind of its own.
