California creates corporate brands that conquer the world over and over again. Our innovation is not matched by anywhere, least of all Texas. And this is not a gap that is narrowing even as Texas is poaching jobs from other parts of the country, which is among other things, a reflection on the lack of in state expertise to invent and create.

Quite frankly.

How exactly does California innovate? Plead explain how the state accomplishes this

Where as texas "buying" things without spending money is actually the state actively working to bring jobs into the state

Without spending money? Where did you get that idea? You should look at the Texas Enterprise Fund. As of May 31, 2014, they have pledged $560,032,696 (actually disbursed $418,740,696) for the purpose of relocating jobs to Texas. http://www.governor.state.tx.us/file...EF_Listing.pdf

Will it continue after Perry leaves office? Who knows Future of Texas Enterprise Fund uncertain under new governor | Business | Dallas Busines...

I shouldn't have said without spending money, i do believe the tax breaks/incentives outweigh the 400mm spent by the tef fund though, so my comment should have been in relation to tax breaks.

You would have to note though that all the moves coming to texas aren't all being funded with tef dollars. Ie the last big one I am familiar with is Exxon's large relo the the woodlands area

-too many jobs with very low wages
-too high property taxes
-too many weather issues (tornadoes, heat, hurricanes)
-too many swamps
-too many bugs
-mostly dull and boring landscape

There is nothing "stunning" about Texas landscape or culture.

Try as they may, but...
Houston will never be Los Angeles!
Austin will never be San Francisco!
Galveston will never be San Diego!
San Antonio will never be Santa Barbara!
...and...
Dallas/FW will always be Dallas/FW!

Other than offering cheap incentives to pirate California business, what does Texas have going for it?
oh come on now, this just isn't fair. Texas has plenty going for it. How do I know this? Because I read City-Data's California forum. The best place to learn about Texas. Just watch.

Still escapes me why anybody cares if Texas takes California jobs. Let 'em go! Get rid of the riff-raff extras! Who cares if "We're #1, we're #1!" Is this a high school pep rally? What I care about is QoL! Which is naturally better in California than any other place I've ever been - and could only be better yet if more people left.

What I'm about to say may ruffle a few feathers but here it is.

I lived in Texas at one time, actually in Austin. I thought Texans were the most inhospitable, arrogant, self-serving, egotistical people I have ever met. They are proud to say they are Texans first and Americans second. On numerous occasions I was stopped by the police for no other reason than having out of state plates on my car. Speaking without a Texas twang marked me for disrespect and arrogance.

Good luck to those who move to Texas and want to become "Texicans."

Retired people who live on a tiny dinghy don't care about things like this. However, those people living in the real world who care about the CA economy and job market, who may be looking for work, care greatly about thousands of disappearing jobs being taken by other states.

Do you know how people get to retire on their little yachts, mbell? By having lived and worked in the real world for a very long time. Along the way, some of us learn what's important in life. And chasing the dreams that are created by others with something to sell us doesn't usually turn out to have been the best use of our precious years on earth after all.

Let Texas take some pressure off California. Being #1! isn't all it's cracked up to be. But being in California can be great without all the freakin hoopla.

Yes, unmeaningful, no future, unskilled jobs that ***anyone*** can do.

You think poaching a bunch of administrative Toyota jobs is more meaningful than engineering positions at Tesla?

Texas is a science and technology lightweight compared to California.

Texas doesnt have the know how to build businesses outside of traditional brick and mortar establishments, which is nothing to sneeze at, and is very lucrative, sure why not.

But as far as driving the future through innovation, Texas isnt even in the passenger seat, it's in the trunk.

Austin's tech scene is the most exaggerated in the US as far as importance.

Are you really that clueless?

California has always been an innovator. From the shows you watch on television to the keyboard you're currently typing on, to the cell phone you use, to the way you receive notifications via e-mail, to your ability to buy things while sitting in your home on a computer, to environmentally-sound automobiles -- all of these things! every single one! -- was an idea that came out of California!

This very site, City-Data, is based in California. I know it must really burn you to have to look all around you and admit what I'm saying is true.

Your own governor, Rick Perry, wants to move to San Diego when he's done being your governor. I guess you don't see the irony there, either.
