Sure, I understand that, of course. But is it really necessary for newscasters to say in a voice of doom and gloom every time it rains, "The storm that came through dropped 1.5" of rain, but isn't enough to make a dent in the serious drought that has consumed the state..." Assuming that rational people who have lived in California more than a year or two already know that one storm won't make the drought go away, couldn't newspeople try to come across as just a little bit happy that it's actually raining?

The talking heads are just reading teleprompters, written by somebody, who was instructed by somebody, who was instructed by somebody, to please somebody who is quite detached from the whole thing, yet wields great power over the message broadcasted. That person's interest is in pleasing shareholders much more than effectively informing viewers. Thus, we get shock and awe.

Since last week, the drought in San Francisco and much of the rest of NorCal has gone from "exceptional" to merely "extreme." w00t!

So now that it's called "extreme", does that mean the kids will think it's cool? Marketable?

Relieved for my home state! Keep it up! Also, this drought monitor is a handy tool.

How sad.

The finest of pleasant holiday wishes!

But anyway, we do hope for a wet winter out here. Particularly in terms of snowpack.

Yawn. And still we have water. And the state hasn't fallen into the ocean yet, as we were promised as far back at least as when I graduated from high school in 1974.

I'm not hearing any answers in this thread about how to deal with it. Wah, wah, we're in a drought, yet water keeps coming out of my faucet.

Seriously, what do you propose, those of you who insist we all tremble in our boots about the drought?
