We citizens are just red-headed stepchildren to our government.
Or that, but we don't get as much.

We don't pay near as much as they do either.

We could get what they get and wouldn't have to pay that much, that's the thing that's really irritating. Take the money spent on the war machine. We spend more on military than the next ten countries combined. Imagine just half of that going toward health care and university. That's what's so maddening about this.

Not to the people making money hand over fist from the military industrial complex.

The USA does spend a very high amount on military even as a % of GDP. What a waste

We don't get as much because we don't pay anywhere nearly as much. What if CA raised taxes even higher, but provided more services? What if you had to pay twice as much to get your car registered, and the tax on a new car purchase was 50% of its value (in Scandinavia, it's anywhere from 100% to 180%)? Look at what Moonbeam achieved just by raising state capital gains tax. Let's see what he does with that money. What if community college education went back to being almost free? And cities got their decaying water-delivery infrastructure replaced? And women got 1 year of paid maternity leave with their jobs guaranteed when they went back to work? And BART sped along those jammed freeways on the peninsula and down to Monterey? And the GG Bridge got a 2nd tier, just for public transport?

You get what you pay for, people. If you nickle-and-dime the gummint, you can't expect much in return.

But then....Sweden and Denmark don't wage foreign wars. And Norway floats its economy on oil money.

Yeah, but "blood money" is more like it, when for example you figure that most of the Israeli fighting machine and hi-tech defense contracts are subsidized by American "foreign aid", to the tune of over $3.5 billion a year.

So regardless one's feelings re: the "Palestinian question", if Israelis wanna "retaliate" and kill thousands of women and children… then let 'em do it on their own dime. They can certainly afford it and we can find better uses for the money!
