California’s economy is on the rise: Economic resurgence bounces state back to seventh largest in the world June 11, 2015, 05:00 AM By Jullia Horowitz The Associated Press

SACRAMENTO — After taking a significant recession-era hit, California’s economy has bounced back up to the seventh largest in the world as the state’s gross domestic product reached $2.3 trillion in 2014, show figures released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

That was enough for California to edge past Brazil’s 2014 GDP of $2.2 trillion, but still below the sixth-place United Kingdom.

California had slipped in the ranks since 2002, when it last claimed the No. 6 spot. The state bottomed out at ninth in 2010 after a harsh drop in economic output after the 2008 financial crisis.

But 2014 saw statewide economic growth on multiple fronts, particularly in professional and technical services, which includes jobs spanning from IT consulting to construction-related engineering and architecture, as well as in manufacturing. The agricultural sector also grew in 2014 despite an ongoing drought.

“People see us as Silicon Valley, where computers are made, and Los Angeles, where movies are made, but we’re doing a lot more than that,” said Robert Kleinhenz, chief economist at the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.

Another pro-California post that will be largely ignored by the haters because it includes all kinds of annoying things like facts and stuff.

Maybe they'll get lucky and the drought will come and support their predictions of doom....though it did rain yesterday.

Where California "ranks" is meaningless since its not an independent country and is totally integrated into the US economy. You can't measure a GDP when the state's economy would probably collapse on its own (if it were suddenly shoved out of the union).

Wow, I couldn't disagree more. If California were to leave the union, the US would miss California a lot more than California would miss the US. California is so diversified it could easily stand on its own as a self-supporting nation. Don't forget, California is a "donor" state: we send more money to Wash DC than we get back.

I often imagine how much wealth this state would have if we weren't burdened with having to support the anti-government red states who hate us but love our money.

You're right. The post isn't really "pro-California," it's just a factual news item that the economy got better. But the Drudge and Breitbart clickers filter out anything that doesn't fit their narrative. If I started a new thread with the title, "California on verge of collapse like Greece due to gun control, unsecure borders, and entitlement handouts", it would have 10,000 views by now.

Exactly. California is so hated because we have liberal politics and "socialist programs" yet we own everything and continue to be a success, thereby disproving every conservative talking point. It's gotten so bad for them that now they're hoping the weather will depress the state. But it won't.

Like it or not, California is founded on guts and determination, folks who pushed their wagon trains over every mountain and over every salt flat and only stopped because they hit an ocean and literally couldn't go farther. It's the place where people come with nothing and turned it into fortune. It will take way more than a couple earthquakes and a drought to even register a blip on our radar.

But I enjoy hearing the arguments the haters come up with. The levels they have to stretch in order to make a case against the state is amusing, to say the least. And if they're dead set on leaving because they failed in the land of opportunity, as Dickens wrote, "...they had better do it and reduce the surplus population." LOL

I love California, not everyone in red states hates you. Just had a great vacation there - full of friendly, helpful people. Glad to see the economic growth there.
