I lost my job in Dallas (no unemployment comp) and will be moving to California. Until I get a job, for the first time since the age of 16, I won't have any income. I heard a single male can get $200 a month in food stamps.

At least you are a US citizen. That's an improvement.

No. I need to move to have a place to stay (nothing here, I would be homeless).

Go over the border, buy a serape and a sombrero, then sneak back into this country. The various agencies and programs will be falling all over themselves to give you free goods and services. Bonus points if you produce an anchor baby.

I want to think you are joking....but maybe you are not. If you think you can't get food stamps etc in Texas moving to Ca would be down right stupid...

You can get food stamps in Texas and you are eligible for unemployment unless you were being paid under the table or on a contract. If that was the case well there is nothing anyone can say...If you had a job where you were paid under the table which it sounds like you did, I can't say I really feel terribly sorry for you. I hate to see anyone lose their job, but if you were being paid under the table you also were not paying taxes.

I know for a fact jobs are easier to get in the DFW area certainly than in California. Have you thought about all the call centers like, Wyndom, Budget, Geico, Hilton for starters. I am sure, at least one of them is hiring and the pay is enough to survive on.

Sorry if I sound cold, but I can't believe if you are relatively young (even a little older) and really want to work you can't find something and in the meanwhile talk to the city of Dallas and the county for ideas.

Nita
