Just an FYI that traffic coming back to SoCal is going to be BRUTAL on Sunday (it sucks going north too). My partner's family lives in Vegas and since I have to work, I usually fly into Vegas on Weds night and then drive us back to the Bay Area on Sunday (he usually takes the whole week off and drives down to Vegas). If we don't leave by 4:30 am, it turns an 8-9 hour drive into a 12-14 hour one.

Yes, since it's a holiday, the time of day makes no difference, lots of people going up 5 to Bay Area, etc., a lot less up 395

Why not leave Tuesday or Monday and make it a pleasant trip?

I am so glad I don't do that crazy stuff any longer.

Hopefully at sometime in your life sanity will take over.

Unless your going to pickp a lot of money it's never worth it.

To each their own... i'll take any chance I get in order to do something spontaneous and different. Getting out of the house and enjoying a few days with my wife, in one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to is so much more worth bags of money. Staying young, is worth it.

That's why we did it, & still do, just in a different place. Road trips are great! I hope you have a fun & safe trip!

I used to do this drive way back when. From Vacaville to Mt. Shasta City was about 5 hours going up FWY 5. I would skirt around LA and take FWY % up the Valley. 395 may be snowy in the winter. And SD to Sacramento is about 8 hours or so.

If you can afford it fly from SD to Sacto and rent a 4 wheel drive up to Shasta. From Redding to Shasta is about an hour and it may snow. Try to drive anytime but the Thursday to Sunday Thanksgiving Days. Hwy 5 stops on the Sunday after Turkey Day going South.

Wish i could be more helpful but if you can fly it saves so much time as Sacto to Shasta is a breeze.
