I'm quite aware of the counter cultural realities of California past and present.
Fortunately there are still some of us non-sensible people around.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. That's what I'm referring to. I'm not trying to rag on anyone else's scene, but that whole culture had a horrible dark side to it that left it's mark on Cali and the rest of the nation. If people just want to drop out, live naturally, with clean food, air, and water, and away from the corrosive effects of advertising and social media, I'm all for it. My apologies if I wasn't specific enough, but it isn't something I'd want to just spell out in neon letters. http://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/icons/icon3.gif

SF-Just an urban suburb of Silicon Valley. Can't get over the fact that everyone only cares about LA.

SD- Imagine if Sac county and OC had a baby. That's SD. Iowa by the Sea.

SJ- Too busy working for a living to care what broke hipsters think of us.

Sac- Always trying to act like they can talk down on Oakland or San Jose. In reality all they have is midtown which is not really that impressive. Their actual selling points would be diversity, proximity to SF/Tahoe, and cheaper housing

Fresno. Hardluck town hanging on as best they can.

Oakland. The same as it was for the most part. Whites in the hills, browns in the flats. Lake Merritt is a bit more pricey than it was in the past and is now full blown yuppie. Parts of West/North Oakland are now the exclusive home of mission district hipsters from 10 years ago. Uptown is where they go to get drunk and puke on the street.
Dude SF is light years ahead of L.A. in everything I can think of. SF feels like the center of CA even tho its not biggest city. L.A. felt very San Jose. Sacramrnto-ish compared to the City slicker fast paced vibrant San Francisco. There's a reason why SF is calked The City while LA is lalaland or tinseltown

SF is only called The City by people who live there. No one else knows what you're referring to.

Kinda funny since a lot of it smells like urine, not sea water, and it has since the 60's.
