People in California get burned out like crazy, yet most people cant take any vacation time either because they dont get it from their employer or are pressured to stay on the job to stay "loyal".

California is the 6th largest economy in the world, and in all the other economies ahead of CA all workers get guaranteed paid leave.

No. People need to stop this bs mandatory lets force everyone to give me something crap. If your company offers no benefits you LEAVE and go elsewhere where they offer benefits. Or you get together with the other coworkers and negotiate for benefits. Or you go and join a trade school or go to college and get a better job.
Nobody owes anyone anything. You're hired to do a job. That's it.

Companies offer benefits like bonuses, vacation, sick days, health and dental insurance, personal days, retirement plans because they want to hire better employees and most importantly keep these employees. If a company doesnt offer any benefits they most likely don't pay crap and more importantly dont really care if you stay or go

A 2 week paid vacation would be nice.

But I have to agree with the above poster to a point. When you go looking for a job, how would you tell the crap employers from the ones worthy of working for? Compensation alone?

Right now if they offer a 2 week paid vacation that is a huge check in the "pro" column. Without benefits it's just a desperation job not worth much loyalty.

Absolutely not. Should companies want to keep their employees happy by offering good benefits? yes, but no way should they be forced to offer any amount of time off. Do you not think others get burned out? I don't think ever worked for a company that did not offer 2 weeks paid time off.

Once everyone offers it it's no longer a "pro".

Yes you're right it's a job not worth the loyalty. But most likely such company runs a huge turnover ratio. Companies worth working for offer benefits to attract and retain better employees.

You dont support employers being required to pay overtime and not employ child labor as well?

Even people who are in the top 10% income scale in California get very poor benefits compared to low-wage workers in countries like Germany, Sweden and the UK. More than half of all workers in the US didnt take any vacation time last year, and another huge proportion fear for the consequences when they do take a tiny few days off.

They can move to Gemany, Sweden, U.K. We can swap the ones from these countries who don't want to take as much vacation. Less regulations please.

If we look at truck drivers, home care workers and waiters in Germany for example, they get 6 weeks paid vacation by law, unheard of for 99% of the workers in the US.

Its interesting that President Taft, a Republican, believed 2 or 3 months vacation should be required by law. That was in 1910.
