Nobody has addressed the fact that CA is way OVERPOPULATED.

So this slow growth is a major welcome.

Over population causes all kinds of problems far worse than having less people.

It puts major strains as we all see living in CA. Strains on social services, strains on the environment, strains on our infrastructure, strains on our food supply, strain and shortage of housing, I mean the list goes on and on.

The CA government wants to continuously tax the people here because so many more need freebies such as more immigrants that migrate here, especially in healthcare and free subsidized housing.

Even if the state lost 5-10 million people it honestly probably wouldn’t even make a difference in traffic, crowding and in other things. All the major cities in CA are slowly becoming unsustainable, with homelessness being rampant everywhere you go, the poverty rate climbing because the COL keeps rising every year, competition for jobs becomes more fierce and competitive as you might have a 1,000 or more job applicants for one measly position.

Another thing, there was an article somewhere online stating that more wealthy types are moving into California from the East Coast and from China, while the people making under 60-50K a year keep moving out of CA.

So yes the growth rate is small, but to act like the sky is falling is crazy. CA NEEDS less people not more. And if the rich are stupid enough to move here and buy a crappy shanty 2 bedroom house for over million bucks, and get raped in taxes, that’s fine by me. Let them waste their hard earned dollars, because everyone with common sense and the will to survive will have the smarts to know that it’s totally insane and stupid, and will eventually make the move out of CA if they want to have a life of financial freedom instead a life behind a financial jail cell.

But the weather and amenities?

California’s 2018 population growth was the slowest in state history, new demographic data show — underscoring shifting immigration patterns, declining birthrates and economic strains that are making it harder for some to afford living here.
Why should we hang our hat on it? Slowing growth is good news.Fewer people to be stranded, when the water runs out.

And those that think overturning Roe v. Wade will increase the population, increase our fertility rate, they've got a big surprise coming, as you can buy abortion kits online, no need to go to an abortion clinic.

Without our immigrants, it's been estimate our fertility rate would be around 1.7, higher than the 1.3, 1.4's in Europe. Ghost towns are already appearing in Europe, noticeably France and Spain.

California goes through this cycle from time to time just like our state's economy as well,so we will have times of slow growth or rapid growth.

Well, i guess since you live in Switzerland you have no skin in the game so to speak? One of the reasons that the growth is slowing is over population and over loving the State. I would not be opposed to a large slowing so we can catch our breath.

Another reason might be the Cost-of- Living is way out of proportion the the rest of the Country, except for perhaps NY.

Recently, vacationed in Minnesota and noted i could buy three comparable homes for the price of my California estate. Made me ponder for a bit.
