we are approaching negative replacement. Whites in this country are not reproducing fast enough to offset deaths.

the only way to insure long term growth at this point is to dispense with the current anti immigrant, xenophobic policies and statements being put out by the trump administration, and streamline the process to let immigrants to come to this country. They bring the energy and ideas that we need, they also bring reproduction rates.

The bolded is certainly true.

We don't need more immigrants, we need to invest in the American people.

Oh Yes we certainly do need more immigrants to sustain our population into the future. Silicon Valley is proof that immigrants have the ability to lift the entire country. Also, aside from financial aid, social services, free K-12 education, and the blessing of all the opportunities already afforded to a person born in the United States, what do you mean we need to invest in the American people?

Not surprising, since many people are wanting to move out of the state because of cost of living, taxes, traffic, etc.....

Silicon Valley is tech companies taking advantage of immigrants using H1B Visas...those jobs should be going to Americans not Indians and the like. We don't need immigrants to sustain American...CLOSE THE DOOR!

You mean they brought highly educated, highly skilled engineers and scientists to the US and they have contributed to the greatest innovation boom since WWII?

There's a problem with that? Oh really?

Says who?

We will lose our competitive edge waiting for US students to catch up in math and science.

Id rather have the best qualified than the reverse affirmative action youre suggesting.

Trees don’t grow to the sky. But 0.47% growth in one year isn’t exactly stagnant, especially considering how high California’s population already is. To me, that’s manageable growth.

I don’t find anything in that article troubling per se other than the fact that the over 65 population is becoming a larger share of the total population, just because that will be an added financial burden. But that’s also a national problem.

Americans are having less kids. Also a national issue. And immigrants to California are more educated, also having less kids. A more California-specific issue, but not necessarily a negative.
