According to Wiki, only two airlines fly out of Bakersfield to four cities.

American Eagle to Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix–Sky Harbor
United Express to Denver, San Francisco

Fresno Yosemite International Airport which is 2 hours away appears to have more flight options but I suppose Bakersfield travelers also use LAX which is 2 hours south.

Honestly, I know very little about Bakersfield other than driving past to get to Fresno where I have family.

Bakersfield...the country music capital of the west coast!

Every city has its positives and negatives, but unless one works or lives in Bakersfield (or has family that does so), it is largely the fly-over area of California. People drive through it or fly over it on their way from north to south or south to north. It is rarely a "destination."

It will be nice when they break ground on the hard rock casino which will be about 20 miles south of town near the 99 and I-5 interchange.

Near the Fort Tejon outlets? It'd be a great employer for Bakersfield based folks, but it is not going to draw too many people to Bakersfield. It will be frequented by folks shooting up and down the state on the 5 or 99.

It will be about 5 or 10 miles north of the outlets i believe. You may be right about actual tourist impact being low to the city but i’m sure it will help draw a few more than it currently receives. Really it will be nice for the residents who will have something unique and close to go to only a short 20-30 min drive away.

That place has better public transport than all other Texas cities combined .

Its depressing for few, but peaceful. NO traffic or congestion whatsoever. You get a lot of family time . You could to Yosemite anytime you want.

Yeah- and pretty soon you can ride Gavin's bullet train from B-field to Modesto, both highly sought after centers of commerce and tourism.

Sounds like a place to avoid imho. Went to Nashville once, that was enough.

Bakersfield was the birth place of Merle Haggard & Buck Owens.

We lived close to Monterey. Once or twice a year, usually, we took our ol' 1978 American Clipper C Motor home on trips to Laughlin or Las Vegas area. For the night, we usually stopped at a Bakersfield truck stop or a mall, had dinner, looked around a little & got some shut-eye time... Next morning we finished the trip to our destination. I caught & released some nice Striped Bass in the Colorado River. Loved those video poker machines & had some ice cold beers... Avi casino had some delicious huge hot dogs...yum.
