According to Wiki, only two airlines fly out of Bakersfield to four cities.

American Eagle to Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix–Sky Harbor
United Express to Denver, San Francisco

Fresno Yosemite International Airport which is 2 hours away appears to have more flight options but I suppose Bakersfield travelers also use LAX which is 2 hours south.
That airport is basically a cheap car rental hub for the region.

I've always been curious about both Bakersfield and Fresno mainly because I don't hear much about them. I've heard some people from the coastal cities don't have a very high opinion of them. Then again that was online and we all know that sometimes you have to take such things with a grain of salt.

Yep...the Central Valley is "farm town"...many coastal elites have a lower opinion which is unfortunate since almost all of the salad, veggies, fruits, nuts, dairy, and beef they consume are from that exact area! Is the breadbasket of the nation which will always garner my respect!

Amarillo? I can see that. OKC? Nah, OKC is a state capitol and it has 1.3 million people in the MSA. Far bigger and more influential than Bakersfield.

The Padre Hotel in downtown Bakersfield is a fun place to stay and dine. Quite the happening place. It’s located two blocks from the historic Fox Theatre. If you’re into Basque cuisine and culture, Old Town Kern just east of downtown is the place to go.

Bakersfield is still better. ( close to LA is better than close to nowhere)

Yup..Bakersfield is not too far from either L.A or the Coast, and also Vegas and San Diego is just 5 hours away as well.

And also Bakersfield isn't overpopulated and traffic is also not too bad either.
