I am planning to move to Fresno to start a job at VA. I am looking for a safe neighborhood and relatively better air quality. Which area to look for a place to live in Fresno or Clovis?
How bad is the air quality compare to Sacramento?
Thanks,
NB

Air is worse than sac, but not much worse.
Air quality was bad for much of 2020 but it was decent in 2019.
Live as far north as possible. you'll get Cleaner air and stronger breezes. There's no 'delta breeze', but the evening summer breezes can still be lovely.

Look for housing near buchanan high school, clovis west, Fresno State, and north clovis. It's hotter than sac, so look for white colored houses/apartments. White paint will cool your indoor temp by a few degrees.
Take care.

Edit: get an electric car if you plan to stay a while.

Thanks for the great information.
Are those areas you mentioned financially reasonable to invest for real state or better to rent for the first 6 to 12 moths to get familiar with the areas before planning to buy?

Great for investing. Low crime, more scenic ( better mountain views), and river access is nearby. The northern parts of town will always be in demand. Your house will hold it's value up north, don't worry about that.

But apartments and renting is pricey up north and might not be worth it to you. Check out tower district and fig garden for rentals. You'll save quite a bit by doing that and it'll help you with your down payment down the road.

If you’re not already familiar with the area, it’s generally wise to rent/lease a place for the first 6 to 12 months before purchasing a home. In terms of where to look for housing, your better neighborhoods in Fresno are going to be located north of Shaw Avenue or in the city of Clovis.

Since the Fresno-Clovis area is laid out in a grid with wide arterial streets, commuting to and from work shouldn’t be too bad. The freeway system can also get you across town in minutes.

Both have bad air.

Under 50 is good, between 50 and 100 is moderate over 100 ain't good at all and ... the average in both show that it will be over 200 at times, not counting fire issues, which is very bad.

Had family there and they left.

Since Clovis is contiguous to Fresno, the air quality data would be about the same. The Weather Channel and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District provide daily air quality forecasts:
