Any one living in Discovery Bay?
We have noticed more homes coming up for Foreclosures and noticing more and more rentals and section 8 tenants moving into in this area,
probably due to the downfalling economy, loss of jobs, etc.

A few of us have also noticed young boys in late teens early 20s
wearing RED HATS. We have been noticing it more frequently and
wondering are these boys part of some type of Gang? They all seem to
wear RED HATS and hang around each other. Of course we would not dare
approach and ask them directly, but we are curious if anyone living in
Discovery Bay knows of any sort of Gangs or Gang Activity in Discovery
Bay.

We are concerned as we have young children playing outside and in the
neighorhood. Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much!!!

Cool Yes there is growing gang activity in Discovery Bay!

There was another post with inquiry to gang related activity in Discovery Bay. I wanted to start a thread to discuss it because there is a growing problem here in Discovery Bay that is rather "hush-hush".

There is a growing problem with gang related activity, apparently the NORTENOS moving in from San Jose, Livermore, Antioch/Oakley areas for "new territory". It was a matter of time with the enormous amount of Foreclosures and bad economy we would see an influx of crime and gang activity making its way further into East County. The adult males are running the drugs and crimes with the younger male kids making the runs and being so called "look-outs". Meth and Marijuana seems to be the big drugs of choice.

Gang Stalking is used as a means to attempt to intimidate the residents to prevent them from informing the police of activity which is why alot of information goes un-reported. Neighbors and residents are followed by foot and vehicles from Gang members. There are Women who use the children as an "in" to befriending other neighbors to keep watch or tabs on the other neighbors to guard against informants, etc. The women also keep tabs or watch on the other female neighbors at schools, etc. Keeping watch on possible problematic neighbors is a way for the Gangs to monitor and prevent police involvement or from being discovered and identified.

There use to be a time 2-years ago, alot of the younger males ages 16-25 would wear RED ball caps or red shirts to identify themselves with the gangs. Now with the full time Sheriffs patrolling the areas, the Gang is taking a low-profile so that members are not easily identified.
The new Sheriff Sub Station is wonderful with two full time Sheriffs now patrolling the city. Neighbors also are able to contact the Sheriffs Department anonymously and report criminal activity.

Prior to the full time Sheriff's Discovery Bay has been suffering from vandalism, car-break ins, home-break ins and theft, identity theft, credit card theft, and a growing Meth problem with rumors of Meth Labs in the areas. The two full time Sheriffs are great at working with the neighbors and providing assistance.

So, hopefully this thread will help shed some light to the inquiries about Discovery Bay growing problems and crime and others can share their experiences and offer in put as well.

Suburbia is funny. This almost reads like an article in The Onion.

Section 8 is a Federal program through Housing and Urban Development...

A few years back local Housing Authorities began issuing Vouchers which are portable... Vouchers can be used anywhere in the United States and the intent is to allow families receiving assistance a choice as to where they live...
