The problem with people like you is that there's absolutely no limit to how much you will consume! And unfortunately, some people need to be told what to do for the better of us all.

Somebody needs to move away from the drought-prone Southwest.

How big of a TV is too big? 60", 70", 93"?
If every American could afford a 93" TV would that be OK to some of you "stay out of my business" folk?

How about this for "limits":

My 25" Box TV that I purchased in 1992 has been quite fancy enough for me I don't get the big TV's but they do seem to pull alot of current.

Same here. I have a Sylvania 24" regular old TV. It's all I need, but I'm the anti-hip when it comes to what I purchase. (or don't purchase)

They're not talking about banning big-screen TVs. They're talking about passing a law in the future that would ban "high energy consuming" big screen TVs (TV clunkers, if you will) and require that TVs sold in the state meet low consumption "energy" standards, not unlike the vehicle emissions standards that the state currently has (and that exceed national standards). The other thing to keep in mind -- if you already have an energy guzzling TV, no one is going to take it away from you. Moreover, newer model plasmas and LCDs that are currently in production are becoming more and more energy efficient. I think the hope here is that California will lead the nation in convincing the TV manufacturers to start making more energy efficient TVs across the board (which they clearly have the technology to do). California has been a leader and used its financial clout to effect changes like this before. I applaud the effort here. If the law passes, and you find yourself buying a big screen TV in five years you can rest assured that it will consume less energy, which will in turn reduce the electricity bill that you pay with money from your OWN pocket.

The feel good age lies ahead of us with perpetual high unemployment just like Europe and a weak dollar. But it will be worth it to save the planet from certain catastrophe.
Enjoying your ride down that slippery slope fallacy?

It would pay some of you to read the book,"Tragedy of the Commons"

On the socialism note, this is a socialist country, when was the last time anyone paid a fire department to put out their house on fire? That used to happen, before fire departments went socialist.

How about those socialist roads? Any of you stop at a toll booth lately to pay to use a private road?

I get a hoot out of those people on medicare howling about socialism.

Speaking of socialism. I used to have a government job that gave me free room and board, free hospital care, free travel, discounted shopping. Socialist to the max.

USN.
