My Canadian friends always told me Tim Horton's was the best place for donuts, better than Krispy Kreme. Well I finally got the chance to put them to the test and they were all lying to me!! Lying, I say!! Tim Horton's donuts taste just like Dunkin' Donuts which are clearly inferior to Krispy Kreme.

I feel robbed! Betrayed! Let down! Hoodwinked!!

I also ate there every day on my drive through B.C and Yukon but THAT'S IRRELEVANT!! Krispy Kreme is better!

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are basically fried diabetes.

Off topic but I find the donut vs. doughnut spelling difference interesting.

Canadians tend to use donut and Americans tend to use doughnut, which seems to be a major exception to the general rule whereby American spelling tends to be simply than Canadian (which is more British-influenced).

Color, harbor, center, dialog, catalog, etc. are the American spellings, and colour, harbour, centre, dialogue and catalogue are the Canadian ones.

Also shortcut spellings like thru, midnite, Xmas, etc. also originated in the US and are examples of how they simplify spelling there.

But they make an exception for doughnuts. Or is it donuts?

I would have thought a Krispy Kreme fan would absolutely adore Tim Hortons. I guess there are different levels of sh*tty doughnuts?

my observation is the other way around were Americans use Donuts and were Canadians tend to use both but lean towards Doughnuts.

KK is a specialty doughnut shop. TH is a full blown coffee shop with lots of different offerings. TH competes in the same market as Dunkin' but TH might be slightly better on average, I think. In any case, you might want to compare TH to DD to be more fair.

Doughnuts are not my thing. I eat maybe 2 doughnuts a year but I would expect a place that does nothing but doughnuts to do them better. I have tried KK once and they did seem tastier than TH or DD.

Although i never gave it much thought i always assumed the donut term was coined by Dunkin Donut and the correct term was doughnut.
I'll Google it.
Seems both terms are correct but the shortened version is more widely used in the USA.

I don't get why people think when it comes to do(ugh)nuts in Canada, it is Tim Horton's or nothing. Aren't there any local shop(pe)s that are famous for their creations?
