First off sorry to hear that and thank you for sharing your experience.

I agree 100% with your last comment there.

Anyone interested in this topic should be paying attention to JK Rowling on Twitter right now. She's taken the gloves off.

Good for her. I am glad she is sticking to her guns.

Author JK Rowling could be prosecuted for “misgendering” trans people under Scotland’s odious new hate crime law that comes into force today, an SNP minister has admitted.

The police have said it does not fall into the category of hate crime.

There's another issue here and that is rewriting books based on "sensitivity" readers. https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainmen...dahl-1.6768418

I can't emphasize strongly enough just how opposed I am to this. Works of art (which is what a book is - literary art) are personal expressions of the creators and exist the way they wanted it to exist. They should not be changed without the creator's consent, which is of course impossible to obtain in the case of the deceased. If people don't like the content then they should simply avoid reading it.

Oh, but it does. They just a tad embarrassed right now. They'll recover:

The Hate Crime Act creates a new offence of ‘stirring up hatred’ against a long list of ‘protected characteristics’. These are: ‘race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), or ethnic or national origins… age, disability, religion or in the case of a social or cultural group, perceived religious affiliation, sexual orientation, transgender identity [or] variations in sex characteristics’. The law applies to all forms of communication, from spoken conversations to private WhatsApp messages, and since there is no dwelling defence, Scots will be liable for prosecution for things they say in their own homes. Penalties include fines and prison sentences of up to seven years.

The fact that it's a billionaire world-famous author probably has an effect on their attitude as well.

For more on that see James by Percival Everett. I read the reviews and may even read the book. It seems from an honest reading of descriptions like a DEI version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.
