I'm on a Mac, so I simply changed my keyboard layout to the "Canadian French" layout. It includes all of the needed accents and special characters, but is a lot closer to the English keyboard layout than to the French (from France) layout.
Of course, I then had to memorize which keys produce characters different than the symbols marked on the physical keyboard... but that only took a few weeks.
