After a non-stop 3 month work marathon, I had been up working for 34 hours in the middle of the Christmas holidays. We were on a deadline. There was a misunderstanding on a conference call, a co-worker kept repeating incorrect information AND I LOST IT. Totally. Screaming, banging on the phone, swearing a streak a sailor would've blushed at.

Everyone was completely shocked. And I felt awful immediately after hanging up.

The next day (after getting some sleep), I sent the co-worker flowers and apologized in person. We remained friends and she stayed in touch with me even after she left for a position at another company.

I did not get fired. I did not get "called in." Or disciplined in any way. It was a high pressure industry with a lot of swearing on an every day basis. Yes, my tantrum was over the top and merited an apology. But I got the job done and in an industry with lots of money involved, that's what they care about.

From what I've read, Bale and the DP are on good terms again.

Bale may absolutely be a complete day-to-day deserves to drop dead a-hole. Or, he may be a guy who was having a bad day and snapped when someone did something enormously stupid at the wrong moment.

Confession over. I'm really a nice person if I get enough sleep.
very interesting point - I think it may have been the 'length' of the 'tirade'. one quick "f this and f that and f you" is one thing - but his rant is another.

anyway, I can see your point.

Millions of dollars are riding on that film.
The director has to get this movie made.
Bale will not be blacklisted, and I doubt he'll "go into treatment" or whatever the usual BS statement is.
It does sort of remind me of the
Bill O Reilly "F-it, we'll do it live" outburst.
But it came about for an *entirely* different reason.
Here is another take on the incident from a reliable source:

Except, you want to hear the REALITY behind that clip?

I know this because I happen to be somewhere where someone that was there that day and for the shoot is.....Bale had indeed warned the DP on multiple occasions about messing with lights while the cameras were rolling, and Bale was in the midst of a painful scene with Bryce, what was described to me as being the emotional center of the film and his character for the film.

Everybody, including Bale, probably learned something from this incident.

Christian Bale has a history of abuses. He was also arrested over allegations he allegedly attacked his mother and sister.

Yes, this was discussed last summer.

This article sheds a bit of light on the situation, though it is the Daily Mail and I take it (and most other Brit papers) with a grain of salt.
I did not realize that Bale was such a close friend of Heath Ledger's.

The source said: ‘Christian was stressed, but he didn’t lay a finger on anyone. Instead, he flew off the handle and cussed his mother. He just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him, and his wife.‘...Things got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room.’
This guy needs to learn Yoga or something.

Read the link and to be honest ... Christian Bale, as a professional, should have walked off the set, into his trailer and then blew apart. Bale already has a history of being volitile (after what happened with his sister and mother) and, while Bale may be the ultimate cool guy on set ... don't cross him ... he's obviously a ticking time bomb.

He doesn't need to be blacklisted, but he'll probably be treated like Val Kilmer, another one who is notoriously difficult and volatile on set ... both are damn good actors, but people are afraid to work with them.

They'll probably also put behavior riders in his contracts too. This tirade doesn't make anyone look good and I'm sure people are not only a little leery of him now, he's going to make the set a more tense place to work because nobody will want to set him off again.

He needs to issue an apology and that DP needs to be fired ...

And where the hell was the director in that film? Why didn't he step in a do something instead of sitting their like a wet dishrag?

Thanks for the O'Reilly rant reminder - doesn't he have one of the top rated news shows? (Not that I watch it.)

Anyway, I knew there was more to the Bale story. I suppose it's human nature to judge others without knowing them or the situation. Personally, I suspect he does have some anger management issues - but, I'm not going to stop watching his movies over it.

Someone mentioned that if a restaurant manager yells at staff they'd get fired. Ever hear of Hell's Kitchen? Gordon Ramsay is infamous for his tyraids on his staff and what does America do... give him his own television show so we can watch the abuse and glorify it all. Just goes to show you the clear imbalance of how we view celebrities.

Amy,

You seem capable of finding lots of creative ways to downplay and justify abuse.
