For those of you who are curious, the new feature is the largest database of names and fingerprints to ever exist, worldwide.

Heard this on NPR and would love to hear how Apple will defy the odds of false negatives with the fingerprint scanner.

I have had this feature on a couple of laptops and even the LG eXpo cell phone. It was abysmal in functionality and virtually pointless.

But Apple wouldnt do something without some serious intent for it to work really well. Like its Maps app.

I think I'll be sticking with my iPhone 4S. The 64-bit architecture and camera improvements of the 5S are nice, but there's not enough there to compel me to upgrade right now. I'm happy with my current phone for now, aside from the small 3.5" screen.

The 5C is probably targeted towards young women between the ages of 15 and 25. The Apple cases for that phone look terrible.

I have the 4S and I am upgrading because of this:

Nerds may really dig the 5S — it's got numerous under-the-hood improvements including a speedy new processor for graphics-intensive gaming, and a "motion co-processor" geared to increase the use of the phone's sensors without draining the battery. It's even got a fingerprint scanner — effectively a third on-board camera — tucked into the home button.

The 5s camera MIGHT wind up being a good improvement if it pans out as well as their hype. Digital image stabilization, the dual white+amber flash for better skin tones, the larger sensor (better dynamic range), and 720p/120 fps video.

People are assuming there's a better battery in it though. If you watch the keynote, he's very careful to say something along the lines of, "... with battery life as good as or better than the iPhone 5....", and the 5 wasn't really known for stellar battery life. They made more of a point of saying the 5c's battery is upgraded than they did to mention anything about the 5s battery.

40 times faster then the ORIGINAL iPHONE was the exact quote.

Yea because I am tired of Facebook taking 1 second to open. Really need that to be half a second.

I'll stick with the 4S. I don't need the fingerprint technology. Think the 5C is geared more towards the middle school/early high school crowd.
