Southern Season closed their Virgina store in April, it was 2 years old. Sales were slow.

Downtown, it is smaller and they will get more tourists.

I am going back first thing to browse and hope it isn't as crazy. We went mid-day. I bought a bunch of wine, tea, coffee supplies, Le Crueset, etc.

Kind of hoping they empty the back inventory. I could use a good quality saute pan.

Interestingly -- their cooking school was always sold out. I went when the Lee Brothers did a demonstration - -within the first few months. It was fabulous.

My neighbor said that in chatting with others in line, everyone was surprised at the closing. Another neighbor mentioned reading something was being done to the building, but couldn't clarify other than that. Sooooo who knows?

I know for a fact there were no plans for that building.

Of course now -- I'm sure they are trying to make plans. That is one big space to lease

Not surprised. I heard they were letting their lease expire earlier this year.

Fresh Market or Earth Fare would be nice in that location.

After reading thread out loud about Southern Seasons closing, DH remarked: "It just goes to show that there can be a store too pretentious even for Mount Pleasant," our home, sweet home .

For those of you who are wrapped up in this....we learned (heard the kiddos yelping) this morning that there is a pokemon to catch on the deck of ACME out on the IOP. So if it's your thing go eat and catch that thing. LOL
