I own the same 3 vehicles I brought up here with me. 2008 F-150, 2008 Edge, and 2011 HD Road Glide Ultra. Had no problem affording them in Florida while making the same rate of pay I make here.
$2,500 per year in county taxes for a 5 year old pickup truck, a 5 year old crossover SUV and a 2 year old motorcycle? There's no way.
There is something missing here. I live in Berkeley county and paid $250 on a two year old truck this year. When I lived in Dorchester county, I was paying about the same on my old '05 Ram (I moved to BC in '09). If you're paying more than $600-$700, you're paying too much.
I suppose, if I had 2 trucks and a motorcycle it might cost me almost $2,500 for taxes AND insurance but not just taxes and I'd fight it if they tried. Then again, I successfully fought Berkeley county on the taxable value of my home in 2009.
All I know is that my personal property tax bills for my vehicles are outrageous and only add to the problem we have with not being able to afford to live here. Nothing is missing here, I get the bill in the mail from Dorchester County then I have to scratch for money to pay this craziness. My vehicles are low-mileage which I understand is part of the reason for the high tax rate. IF we're still here come November hopefully the bill will drop.
It didn't take us long to figure out why there are so many used-car lots and people driving around in older vehicles around here.
That still doesn't sound right, my wife's brand new 4runner was $500, and then dropped about a $100 the next year. My 2007 Jeep Wranger is like $250. I don't know how you got to $2500 with those vehicles. I'm in Berkeley County as well.
In looking at your vehicle values and millage rates it looks like you may be paying double what you should be paying. Have you ever questioned the bill?

I'd question the bill, as well. The office may have made a mistake.
TiGator,
Someone accidently has it in TWICE.
Your tax is wrong. Don't feel intimidated, people make mistakes,
you know that, go down and ask why it's so high and have someone
fix it.
It could have been a new auditor, or just a clerical error, but
trust me, you are being billed twice by accident. That property tax
bill is too high man!
There has to be a mistake.... I was worried about property taxes then I got my bills. Granted my vehicles aren't worth much but my 3 cars I pay $100. Hell my property taxes on a 4 bedroom house and all my cars is less then $1800 in dorchester which isn't even the cheapest tax rate.

Taxes on my 1500sf, 3br 2 ba home in Goose Creek are around $650/year. That's part of the reason I was so confused about the $2,500/year for vehicle taxes
Will yall leave the man alone, he said he can't make it here so let him be....
I am sure it is more than just his property taxes....
Good luck Gator....
