The only Scholotzsky's is on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston. I've been there, the sandwiches are good and the workers were nice. I won't go by myself after dark, though...
Re: Firehouse subs. I honestly do not get the hype for this chain. I've tried it a few times, and each time I was left really underwhelmed. :shrugs:
I'm with you on this one. I'm convinced that if they didn't have a million radio ads explaining to everyone how awesome "steamed" subs are, people would realize the fact that it is actually just a really soggy, average sub.
In fact, anywhere that serves cheesesteaks without a grill is a sham. Putting meat and cheese and bread in the microwave does not a good sandwich make (yeah, I'm looking at you Larry's and Sub Station).
On the high end, butcher and bee has awesome sandwiches.
On the more affordable end, Mozzo Deli off Coleman in Mt. Pleasant is really good--huge selection of hot and cold sandwiches. and the people know what they're doing service-wise. We came in just as they were closing, yet they made us sandwiches and let us stay and eat in as they broke down from lunch service. It was one of those days when we were with a fussy toddler, everyone was hungry and tired, and the staff was just awesome to accommodate us as they did. And that's just what they're like all day every day.
they appear to have a chicken parm, but i've never tried it.

Personally, my wife and I really love "Larry's Giant Subs". We go to the location on Trolley, and the sandwiches are always great. I think they're definitely better then most of the other sub shop/brands. They do have a chicken parm sub, but I haven't tried it before.

My kids like Larry's. I get the egg salad and its pretty good.
I hear you on Firehouse not a big fan, but better than subway.
Jersey Mikes is another fav, for a chain its isn't too bad
I really miss Lenny's Sub Shop in West Ashley. I feel a little sub every time I drive by it . They were my favorite.
I think as far as chains go, Firehouse is probably the best. Not really sure about local places because I don't eat sub sandwiches/hoagies out very often...
This was by far the best sub shop in Charleston!!
I also am sad, as I drive by I never had such a good Chicken Philly in my life (I am not from the north).
Lenny's was awesome, hope somebody re-opens one here again!
Firehouse is my second favorite, but nothing is like Lenny's!
