Somewhat minor but Google maps updated a some of the area to as recently as October, also Fruit of the Loom is shutting down their warehouse by March apparently.

Anyone know what’s being built behind Chick-fil-A on Long Point Road in Mt P? Lots of site prep. I also heard that a hospital system had bought the property across the road from Chick-fil-A that now says “Sold” - corner lot at Long Point and Belle Point Dr. It seems the lot would be far too small for a hospital but possibly a medical office building or ambulatory surgery center or something similar?

It's still moving forward but the 1/2 cent sales tax will have to receive voter approval this November if it's going to get totally funded. I believe $1.7 billion raised from the sales tax will be devoted to 526 completion. The SC SIB is putting up another $700M.

They can't give up on it, because Johns Island continues to grow dramatically and no one is gonna stop that. Johns needs more ways on/off the island, and also needs to stop gridlocking James Island. 526 solves both problems.

While i agree whole-heartedly 'but think of all the increased growth this will cause'. Hopefully they actually build it this time.

Not crazy about the elevations but it's definitely the right project in the right spot in terms in terms of target use. And compared to some other goofy developments it doesn't seem so much micro as a standard studio configuration.

I feel that everyone seems to forget people are moving here from DC, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, etc. A one hour commute does nothing to deter those people because they are used to it. So making Johns Island a traffic hell will not keep them from looking at housing on Johns Island. At this point 526 will be equally important to quality of life in JI/WA as it is to getting people onto Johns Island.
