As someone who stayed home during Sandy I would say get out.
When there is six feet of water in your house, your cars are floating, the power plant/ sewer plant fire as well as car fires mixed in with alarms dying is all around and you realize water is rising but top floor is not safe as trees are falling you wish you would have left.
My house is once again in the path. This time I will be long gone if it is coming.
Or if you are more comfortable call the main reservations for a Holiday Inn or Comfort Inn and ask them to check pet friendly availability within 'x' number of miles.
School districts in Columbia area are shutting down. I could have sworn it was suppose to be coastal areas but who knows.
After last years flood, I don't think the state wants to take any chances. The USC/Georgia game is still on as of now, but of course one new model can change that pretty quick.
Someone had a good point. Many folks may end up in schools as shelters so inland schools need to be readied for the influx of folks. Not everyone gets to go to a hotel. Warned my son that we might be crashing at his apt. in Columbia. Told me not to worry -- we have an air matress , lots of beer and wine lol.
