My fiance` and I are moving to the Charleston area (she is from Charleston) and are interested in either purchasing an existing Liquor store OR establishing one in a high traffic new development area. Let me know if anyone knows of either.
The liquor stores are terrible in Charleston. Maybe its because of the early closing times (7pm) or loss of profit from wine sales at grocery stores, but the liquor stores here can't compare to the ones in my home city of Memphis.
I'm new to the Charleston area. I see this thread is 3 years old, but I'm curious if OP purchased a liquor store. I'd also like to know why the heck liquor stores open so late and close so darn early?! 6 or 7pm?? Are they kidding? Those are almost bankers hours!! A lot of people aren't even off work at that time! Are we supposed to buy liquor on our lunch break? Liquor stores stay open till 11+ pm in the Atlanta area where I'm from.
And holy cow, I just learned why all the liquor stores have 3 read dots on them instead of actual words, like "Liquor Store" or "Package Store". It's because SC law prohibits them from "advertising", so they have to resort to covert methods, as if prohibition still exists! LMAO. How retarded is that??!
Can't you buy beer 24/7 if you are an alcoholic, you will get your buzz. I am from FL you could buy any liquor till 2am then they shut down to morning. Understandable, general public doesn't need to start drinking at 3am if you are going to impose a law.
It's ruined my drink of choice for buzzed yard/house/car work Sundays.
If I've ever not had what I needed in the house, I've not once in my life felt like "I have to have it now!" Hope I never get that way.
