My mother is 79 years old and has her hair done weekly here at home in WV. We will be locating to Goose Creek/Summerville/No Chars/Hanahan area in the future.

We do visit my daughter who lives in North Charleston quite a bit and stay a couple of weeks at a time.

I am looking for a hair salon that knows how to do the old fashioned hair roller and styling of hair. No blow dry - her hair (like most women her age) needs the roller/sit under the hair dryer/tease and spray routine.

Can anyone recommend a beautician or salon who can do the hair of LOLs? (my affection term for Little Old Ladies )

Thanks in advance!

Take her to the Cosmetology schools, that service is needed by the students in LARGE amounts.

If you do it right, you can get your mom in on senior day and it's seriously cheap. If she can explain what she wants, and she has the patience to find the right person (it may take a couple of trips.) It's not a style that needs a lot of experience/talent and as long as she gets someone willing to listen to her she will be he could be sittin' pretty once a week for under $10!

Good luck!

I think this would be a good option for me... but not my mother. 79 year old women are kind of 'set' in their ways - at least my mother is! There is no way she'd let someone do her hair who was 'learning'. She needs someone who has been doing hair for a while and is experienced with LOL hair styling.

It's a good thought though. Unfortunately, I know her too well and she'd never go for it.

I hope someone else out there can offer some help.

Thanks!

Actually my daughter is in Cosmetology School now and I asked her if she would know how to do it and she said yes, that it is easy. It's not like they are completely unsupervised. They have instructors who check their work and right now they are going into their 3rd learning semester so they do have experience in working with appointments at the clinic. I go there all the time to get mine colored, it is free for family members and they use the good stuff too like Redken. She said a roller set and style would be $3.00. She works on older clients all the time. Any salon should be able to do it though. I know the one I go to Summerville does a lot of older clients on Thursdays it is called Sweetgrass Salon. Your mom would probably feel comfortable there and the prices are reasonable. Ask for Heather.

your post makes me laugh - my 89yr old grandma who comes down to visit has the same thing! It's the HUGEST decision on where she gets her hair done, and how well the girl does it....we live in MtP but a good idea is to contact any local assisted living places, they usually have an onsite person who specializes in taking care of the "older" ladies! Good for her that she still takes good care of herself!

Well, having been through cosmetology school and now having almost 8 years of experience I can tell you that often there is only three months difference between someone in a 'salon' and someone 'learning' in school.

But, good luck in your search!
