I don't see anything on that map that indicates an creek/body of water large enough to be considered a "river" as such. I hope someone else has info on this, as now I am wondering if I made it up, lol.

I would rather not be dragged through underground like a troglodyte on an old fashioned subway. If Charlotte wants to show it is forward thinking then it ought to do something more innovative like these people did 40 years ago.

Shonan train serves an upscale beach suburban area about 50 miles out of Tokyo. It was opened in 1971.

BTW - love your idea for a documentary.
Thank, Ani.

Since this is not the Philadelphia board, I won't go into detail on what they did, but it's common knowledge, there.

Philly's system is old, but keep in mind that the subway system consists of the Broad St Subway & the Market-Frankford Subway-Elevated. They might have to do something similar here, because of the water table. It would be more cost-effective to forget the streetcar thing, work on the light-rail & figure out ways to incorporate short runs of subways in the system.

They would be much better off to look at Philly's system. It's the oldest in the MidAtlantic. There's also a commuter line that goes in from South Jersey, the PATCO line, that San Francisco studied when they were planning their BART system.

I was thinking that an easy addition to the documentary would be almost a freebee. The train from Gastonia that Charlotte doesn't want.

I know I saw a map! It is driving me bananas! If you find a map showing this area that was filled in, please post it cause I know I didn't dream it up. It may have been filled in sometime in the 18th Century but for some reason, I think it was the 19th Century.

Your library. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Story (the main one, I suppose), if, of course, it's still open.

Emissary's scenario keeps popping up in my mind of the streetcar puttering down the road, past the shuttered libraries & schools to the boarded up mall. . . & if I might add. . .while Jonathan Winters, dressed as Maude Frickert stands at the front announcing the stops & giving tourist tips.

Awwwww , why is there so much angry and idk what to call against this line? And 25 Million $$$ is a tiny drop in the bucket.........hahah. A subway , oh dear your cities density is way to low. Wait another 20 years , and your 2030 plan is pathetic. Way to small for the growth that will happen.
