I'm looking for an interesting area to stay in Charlotte for 3 days. Northlake? Southpark? Uptown? Uptown seems very expensive for hotels, but I'd like to be in an area where I can walk to restaurants and shopping. I'm also planning to check out Charlotte's light rail system for future visits.

Uptown is probably your best bet.

I'd use Priceline or similar to book a hotel Uptown. Should be able to get it for around $100/night, if not a little less. Southpark would be my 2nd choice - I know you can get Priceline rooms at the Embassy Suites right by the mall for sub-$100/night on Priceline. My work used to do it all the time.

Good luck!

If you stay Uptown, you can use the light rail to explore restaurants in Charlotte's "Southend" region (other than that, it's basically just a commuter line). If you use Priceline and just select uptown, 5-star, and make a $80 bid, I have no doubt you'll get a great hotel.

South Park is considered the 2nd largest "city" (if it were such) in the Carolinas (both NC and SC). The hotels are all short walks from Charlotte's nicest mall, South Park Mall. There are great restaurants in all directions and all within a short walk.
