A lot of people discover that they need to reinvent themselves. I'm a jewelry appraiser who's learning how to do gunsmithing. I know a cop who's also a locksmith. My wife works in retail but also has a thriving Ebay business. If you discover that there aren't any jobs in your field go out of your comfort zone & see if you have other marketable talents.
I'm hearning that those who've hit their 26 week point are being told to apply for ANY jobs available, regardless of what they pay, if they want to keep their unemployment benefits.

That sounds good to me. I know some people around Charlotte and other cities that are using their unemployment benefits just as a break from work. They are in no hurry to go back to work. There aren't any harsh requirements to document searching for employment as there were in the past.
Someone suggested today that those on extended unemployment should have to work (25 hours a week were suggested) for their money by doing jobs for the city or volunteering. That is a great idea. Also, it would be an incentive if unemployment checks progressively decreased as time went by to make one more agressive in searching for work.
By the way, I saw a sign in Brugger's Bagal this moring for a morning preparer (cook). Anyone interested?
Lack of jobs has been the norm here for a couple of years now. My wife finally found temp work (long term full time) a couple of months back. It took her over 2 years of interviewing and searching to find this. My advice is to stay positive, keep your head up and do not be too proud to take an entry level job.
I have seen lots of fast food chains hiring for Management. not sure what the pay would be but worth a look. I moved here without a job, though my fiance had one to support us, but I found one within a month. I applied all day every day. I hated not being able to rely on myself, and I made it happen. I'm not saying the jobless arent doing that, but dont give us. Keep on trying, and dont give up. Go to the interviews that sound like BS, make connections if you can. If you arent what the employer is looking for, maybe they know someone.
