I traded in my old car and bought a brand new car 3 months ago. That new car was inspected on 4/24/09 and my registration paperwork says inspection is due on 8/31/09 because they just transferred my registration from my old car to my new car. So i called the dealer and they said I have to get it reinspected because a new law kicked in jan1 saying inspection has to follow the paper registration date no matter when a new car was inspected. Does that sound right? Kinda stupid to me.....

When is your registration due? I would not worry about getting inspected until you have to renew your registration:

My car regristraton is due by the end of this month and i just renewed it online.... but I think the inspection date carried over from my old car which was due at the end of this month also

Edit:

How will I get a license plate for a new vehicle I just purchased?
A new vehicle must be inspected before it is sold at retail in this state. Upon purchase, you will be provided a receipt certifying inspection compliance. The inspection conducted prior to your purchase is valid until the license plate is due for renewal.

That's stupid because my registration was due 3 months after I bought the car...

I would call the DMV to be on safe side, or call your local Official Inspection Station.

Plan on a trip to the local DMV office. I think it would be better to straighten it out in person and know what you need to provide or obtain. You can also pick up a plate right there while you wait.
