I was just noticing in line to pick the kids up from school how many out-of-state plates there were. And while yes some may be new-ish I know the 2 in front of me moved to the school before we did last year.
Oh and they are parents of high schoolers, so what happens when the kid goes to get a license don't they check the parents record?
This is all too common here. People live, and work here, never changing their plates. I wonder if their car is registered at all. If so, why will one be willing to pay out-of-state driving insurance fees. Except if they come from a state that is cheap in comparison. I think the real problem is that they don't want to take the written test.
Last night I parked at the mall next to a car that had California plates that expired in 2010. The expiration date is on a sticker, just like NC and SC.
Do the local police not bother to pull over a car with expired out of state plates, unless they get pulled for another reason (or they're on 51 in Pineville)?
It's for this reason that I have to carry Uninsured Motorist Coverage, because this car is obviously not insured, not registered, and who knows if the driver even has a license. Are they waiting for him/her to kill someone? [/rant off]

Unfortunately, the out-of-state-expired-tag thing is becoming entirely too common. It seems as if our revenue problems aren't as bad as they want to claim them to be if the CMPD and other agencies aren't breaking balls about these tags.

Just b/c the car's tags are expired does not mean the insurance on the car is expired/non-existent. They are completely different things.

That is partially correct. I carry insurance on a car that I haven't had a tag on in 25 years. BUT, if that car is involved in an accident while being driven my agent would not pay a claim. It would be left to the legal system to find a way to pry the claim out of me.
I wish the police would enforce this, I brought this issue up here quite a while ago here. The problem with NJ and NY plates is they do not have the stickers on the plate so you can't tell if they are expired. And those are the people that we have a high concentration of here.

You hit the nail right on the head with the school drop off and pick up lines.
I have mentioned to county policemen I know that they could make a bundle in fines just by running tags in the school drop off lanes. A bonus would be to turn the names in to school administrators if the tags were valid SC tags dropping off kids in NC schools. The schools could charge out of district fees for the remainder of the year. A win-win for local govt. coffers.

When will you run for office? I would vote for you on the purpose of enforcing existing laws and bringing in revenue instead of raising taxes like the rest of the current nitwits.
