Has anyone else noticed the lack of general street maintenance with Charlotte streets this year? It's looking pretty "third world" out there. You would think in light of the DNC in Sept., Charlotte would be sprucing up it's outlying streets as well, but it seems to be just the opposite this year. Can't say I ever remember the roadways looking this bad in all my years here......Below are a few examples, but this is city wide.

I've seen the street sweepers running. It is just very difficult to keep up with all of the litter. There have been times in the past where I have seen much worse than those pictures. It does seem to be improving but I don't know how much the DNC has to do with it.

Surprised Carmel is that bad. Ballantyne residents must be whining enough to soak up all the street maintenance money available these days... Goodness knows not much escapes South Charlotte.

If the city spent less time washing my neighborhood streets, which never need it, they could focus on the areas that would benefit.

Here's a thought-fine smokers $500 for every cigarette seen being tossed out of their car windows. Maybe that would help that part of the trash problem. Why do smokers think their butts aren't trash?

Wow, those pic's are telling! And it's not just the litter. It's amazing how much dirt and weeds can accumulate in the medians.

I wonder if someone took it upon themselves to go out there with Round Up, a shovel / bucket, and a broom... would they be run off by the authorities as being a safety hazard?

I also agree with VMAX about the cig butts. I'd be good with a $500 fine AND 2 points on the DL for throwing objects from a vehicle! Let's start hitting these inconsiderate slobs where it hurts and maybe they'll start taking responsibility!

So next time you throw your gum our the window we should fine you too. It's not decomposable, so you're contributing to the problem too. (not trying to be a dick, sorry)
I work outside and have to pick up peoples trash all day and you'd be surprised how much people actually throw out and how much of it is cups, napkins, taco bell and cans. I rarely see cigarette butts. But people are gonna do it, the trash problem wont get much better unless there are people watching for people littering and writing tickets. In all the times I've been to the courthouse, I have never seen someone there for a littering ticket.

Look at those pics. There are dozens of butts in them. Look at any intersection. Look at any place where many smokers go and there aren't ashtrays. I saw many smokers get out of their cars, walk to the front of our store, then turn around and toss their butts into the parking lot, while they were standing next to an ashcan.

Cigarette butts are by far the most common trash I ever see.

For the record, I don't chew gum.

Honestly, I was expecting a barrage of cynical responses, but I am pleased to see that some of you see the ugliness that I see on Charlotte streets.

So we do have street sweepers VMAXNC? Could've fooled me, LOL. I suppose the city cannot afford to use them where they need them most.

Here are a few more nice photos!

I challenge you to follow me and find me throwing ANYTHING out of my vehicle. I'd pay you $500 if you see ever anything go out my windows! I am far from perfect, but that is an absolute rule for my family.

At least one!

I really don't see why it comes into the neighborhood. Most of us are good about keeping our...streetside water channels....clear, and there's nothing being brought into the neighborhood to cause the need for sweeping.

I bet what we spend on a new piece of "art" for downtown, or a junket for council members to go somewhere to see how they manage their city, would pay for a bunch of Roundup and sweeper time for a year.
