Teen gunned down in northeast Mecklenburg | CharlotteObserver.com

This is pathetic, I am PO! What is Charlotte turing into? South Chicago?

With a death rate 1/20th of Chicago, I doubt we'll reach that lofty goal any time soon.

Charlotte isn't a Utopia...

...but South Chicago it ain't, and likely never will be.

This happens all the time in Charlotte. Why the surprise? It seems to be a nightly event on the news. People need to become civilized and learn to live with others.

The main reason I'm venturing into the TN forum lately is to plan to get away from NC's income taxes. But the growing list of unsolved murders in Charlotte have also been in the back of my mind.

When I picked up local newspapers in small town TN, they highlighted crimes like "local resident apprehended for stealing medicine" or "forging checks".

Charlotte's violent crime rate is becoming numbing to read, again and again.

murders? there were 25 through the first half of the year in Meck County.

I'd be willing to bet that's better than a lot of similar sized counties. I tried to look up Wake County real quick but couldn't find the numbers. I did look at the city of Richmond VA (about 1/5 the size of Meck County) which had 17 murders in the same timeframe.

I'm skeptical of official stats when you compare metro to metro. We have so many repeat offenders here that get reduced sentences, or plead to lesser offenses.

And it's not just gangland stuff. Such as the home owner who was merely renovating his place, shot by some thug who walked in on him ... Or the pregant lady murdered at a restaurant by a co-worker. We have some horrible crimes that are not "hanging with the wrong crowd" or "wrong place wrong time" events.

"Seems to be" being the key phrase in that sentence. With the numbers of murders in Charlotte each year normally falling between 50 and 100, there is hardly a murder every night. I think many people get caught up in the perception of nightly murders due to media over reporting of the most sensational stories - and murders are very sensational stories.

This is not to minimalize this murder by any stretch of the imagination, but Charlotte is far from the level of Chicago.

So the teen was gunned down by 5 other teens who apparently did not know each other. All over a perceived disrespect in front of a girl.

Five teens charged in 17-year-old’s slaying | CharlotteObserver.com

WTH is this city coming too? The 5th teen murder since March. Charlotte did not used to be like this. I'm sure these five will receive some sort of combo of: probation, dropped charges, plea to lesser charges, and be fitted with a plastic ankle monitor and be released into the public where they can terrorize more citizens.

TEENS with guns listening the the bs rap music of today-yes I said it-is bad news to everyone. No respect or value for life anymore.

I find it very concerning, as well.
