Vis art on 7th street in Elizabeth would be closest probably.
VisArt is *amazing* and worth a drive! Locally owned, eclectic collection of the newest hits plus waaaay obscure stuff and everything in-between. Movies and TV series. They nearly closed a few years ago - they *did* close for a bit, actually - but folks reinvested to keep this gem here. Very touching part of that story? People who had bought the "going out of business" DVDs and videos gave them back when the store reopened, most not asking for refunds.
I love Netflix and Amazon Video, but as often as possible, I get DVDs and Blu-Rays from VisArt. They still have some videocassettes, too. And the people who work there *know* movies and TV shows, they can make great recommendations. Found some excellent anime for my sons that way.

Thanks for info on this place, I might have to go there for some Christmas shopping. My partner is a movie buff and has seen about everything and he has countless of DVDs and Blue Rays, I might find something in there obscure section.
I appreciate it.

There is not a Family Video near you ,in south Charlotte, north Charlotte for the Blockbuster is to far for a rental. You might look for Red Box locations.
For me rentals come in handy for like the holidays and you have options for the various people you have over.
The cost of movies have become cheap it is best head to a department store and just buy a movie.
This is true. I can find most big blockbuster hits from the 2 years ago and before in the DVD bin at Walmart for $5. Blu-Rays at Wal-Mart and Best Buy are $7.99 for the older movies, 2 years and older, and that includes the big hits too, not just B movies.
I on the other hand will download most of my movies, for free. Then you have Netflix if your'e into that too.
There was a time when you could go into Hollywood Video or Blockbuster and browse the store for as long as you wanted and pick up either VHS tapes (remember them?) or DVDs to watch your favorite movies -- either the latest hits or classic movies made 20+ years ago.
Once you picked your DVDs, you went to the cashier and paid for the movie rentals and returned them 5 days later. What happened to all these stores? I know Hollywood video went out of business a few years ago, and just recently Blockbuster pulled out. What's going on here?
Is there anywhere close to South Charlotte where you can go into a store and rent movies to watch? I know there are plenty of Red Boxes around but they don't have a wide variety like the classics. There is a Blockbuster listed in University North but that's too far to drive. Does anyone else miss the brick and motar video stores?
I think we should all mail you some DVD's for Christmas
thanks Chi-Town Bears

Netflix, Roku (need one), Amazon Instant Videos (awesome), Pirate. << The 21st century video stores.
Your post instantly put the thought6 of a recent South Park episode in my head about the same subject. Be sure to watch it on Amazon Lol
Roku replaced the stores. Between Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, Crackle, and others, there is no need to fool with physical media or even cable/sat tv now. I don't think I've turned on my DVD player this year and I never bothered to buy a BluRay player. My last VCR is lost somewhere in a closet. Haven't seen it in years. LOL
I like the video stores that existed before Blockbuster. A very funny scene, set in one of these places, can be seen in the movie Clerks where the guy orders new videos from the store over the phone.
As someone else already said, VisArt is the place to go for classics, foriegn and/or obscure rentals. I don't recommend them for mainstream movies because they are much more expensive than your redboxes or Blockbusters. There's still a Blockbuster store in Matthews, BTW.

Matthews would work for me! I googled Blockbuster but didn't see them listed in Matthews. You don't happen to have their address do you? Thanks for this information.

I'm so not up-to-date on all these new ways to stream movies from computer to HDTV. I tried to learn it but got confused and gave up. Thanks for your reply.
