We're thinking of buying a townhouse in the Park South Station community on Archdale and Park Rd. It looks like the zoned schools are ranked pretty poorly.
Does anyone know where families who live there send their children or other solutions for better schooling in the area?
Home owner's sued and won last year or the year before...can't remember exactly when. Rates (according to friends and clients that live in community) went down more than 40%.

That's great news. I heard they were on private water over there.

Thanks for the update on the water situation - I've read a lot about it on these boards already.
I wouldn't send my child to Huntington Farms Elementary. Scores are not okay. Carmel is fine, South Meck is just okay.
So it's best to avoid buying there then? Or would most families then just choose private school? I'm not from Charlotte, so I'm not familiar with how people handle being zoned for a bad school...
If your children are not yet school aged, then magnet lotteries are a great option for elementary and middle school, although they aren't guaranteed. There are many that are very convenient to that area, including an IB partial at Huntingtowne (if memory serves correct) . South Meck doesn't worry me. My largest concern, if I were you, would be that that development closely borders the zoning for a different high school that I would not currently feel great about.

Thanks for the info...kids are still babies, so we have time to look at other options. We're going back to look at the development again today and have to think it over. We like the neighborhood and convenience to uptown, but hate the bad schools. We've looked in Ballantyne area also where schools are good, but hate feeling so removed from uptown, etc.
