Davidson is wonderful, can't say enough good about it. However, be aware, homes there range well over $300,000 and mostly higher. For anyone who can afford to live there, as long as you don't have to commute into uptown Charlotte, I'd say go for it!
I currently reside in Davidson. Have been here since July. Relocated from NY. I don't work in Charlotte so my commute is no problem, though if you did work in Charlotte it might be a problem. Davidson has a small town feel and everything is basically within walking distance. If you want a single family house here it's going to be over 300k. If you want the 200k range, you'd have to settle for a townhome. I'm moving out of my townhome into a house in Cornelius. To me, cornelius and davidson are both great towns. Good schools and quality of life is great.

Everything is in walking distance? Where do you get your groceries?
