Transplants are accepted with no problem in Kings Mountain. I got a mixed vibe in Cherryville, but not bad. Lincolnton has a problem with outsiders & that includes natives of surrounding areas. That's too bad because Lincolnton is a lovely town. I also should add that there are no problems whatsoever in Gastonia. There's always a jerk wherever you go, but overall you will be accepted & welcome in Kings Mountain. (I live in the city.)
I really don't know about FFA, but I would image that it would be in the schools.
Kings Mountain schools are good. One of the elementary schools has the Blue Ribbon designation. There are sports teams. I know that there are advanced classes in the high school, but I'm not positive about the jr. high & intermediate schools.
That's to bad about Lincolnton, I checked out that area (via the Internet) it seems like a nice place to live also.
Can you give me some names of elementary schools I should look at?

Red Bridges BBQ Lodge in Shelby is one of the traditional BBQ places in the state. Big E's BBQ in Kings Mountain is run by a local who is involved with the BBQ cook-offs. Different styles, but both are popular.

I went to Lincolnton to check on some property. Once was enough for me.
The elementaries in Kings Mountain are East Elementary, North Elementary, West Elementary & Bethware Elementary. East Elementary is the blue ribbon school. None of them are bad. Bethware is the oldest & is slated to be replaced in a few years.
The elementaries are 1st - 4th grades. 5th & 6th go to the intermediate school.

I'm not sure when the testing results from this past year will come out. The state switched testing systems (That got the state out of the no child left behind.)
Many people may not be aware that there are two Bridges BBQ places in Shelby (and they are not owned by the same people).
Most people know of Red Bridges place on the Dixon Blvd/Highway 74 bypass, but for a couple of reasons I prefer the lesser known Alston Bridges out by the hospital. 1) They accept credit cards, last time I was at Red's it was cash only, and 2) - they have the "coarse brown" at Alstons, which basically includes the outer portion of the meat that is nice and smokey.
But which is better is a matter of great debate in the area.
This is also great information for me. We are thinking of moving to a rural area of NC also and we love camping and the outdoors as well. I love this site because of the generous, helpful folks here, thank you all.
