What a great boon to the area. Being the victim of Bad Grandpa's "pranks".
I doubt it. I saw this film, and there were street scenes from several different cities. Quite a few different skylines were shown as well. KC, Cleveland, Charlotte, Raleigh, Mooresville, Gastonia, St Louis and others were all used. Charlotte was never mentioned by name, but Raleigh was. Anyone who was watching this movie (and have never been to the Charlotte area) would not have any clue that many scenes were shot here. Charlotte played the role of "anywhere USA" on this film. Good movie, but it was far from being a "coming out" film for Charlotte. The average movie goer in California would assume that those North Carolina scenes were all Raleigh. On the other hand, when they were in Knoxville (surprise, surprise) we ALL knew it. Nothing wrong with Johnny giving a shout out to the home town.
With that said, Charlotte won't ever get portrayed properly on film until one of our own makes it big and does a film in Charlotte. Plain and simple...

Not sure if you understood, I was being sarcastic.
Unfortunately, with the Penguin back in the lime light again, (First back in 2007 when Diners, Drive Ins and Dives did their expose on it) the fall out in October 2010, and now with Bad Grandpa, it's on the rocks.
Maybe it's coincidence, or a curse, but it seems that for the second time national attention has been brought to it, the landlord and the new owners are at odds, specifically, the restaurant is now in default.
I'm sure Brian Rowe (Now around the corner) who helped make the Penguin what it was, is mentally going over the definition of Karma right about now. Whether he's smiling or shaking his head is anyones guess.
