So how happy is everyone that Marce was re-elected? How effective can she really be when obviously NO ONE on the BOE stood up for her in last night's meeting.
From a getting things done standpoint, with hindsight being 20/20 and her 'mistake' (one that would have her fired if she double-submitted mileage reimbursements for a regular business) come to light, she's going to be able to be as useful as teats on a bull...
I am trying to recall the process for filling an open spot on the BOE. If she resigned - does the existing BOE select the backfill ?

According to BOE Policy 1-1:
Vacancies occurring on the Board, for any reason other than by expiration of the term of office shall be filled by appointment by the remaining members of the Board. The person appointed to this vacancy shall serve until the next election of members of the Board is held. At that time the remaining unexpired term of the office in which the vacancy occurs shall be filled by election.
Since this is so clearly documented in policy we could probably expect something completely different.

It's exactly what they did for Crowder and what would happen should Savage resign (or be locked up).
Union Co. school board censures its vice chair at tense meeting
The Union County school board has voted to censure its vice chair over her interaction with a school administrator and questions over mileage reimbursement forms.
Following a tense, hour-long discussion at a meeting, the board voted 7-1 Thursday night to censure Vice Chair Marce Savage, who abstained from the vote. Jim Bention Sr. was the no vote.
Last month, the county school board hired an outside lawyer from Asheville to prepare a report on concerns raised about Savage by fellow board member Kevin Stewart, mainly on the interaction with the administrator.
Savage is also a member of the state Board of Education. The lawyer’s report stated Savage had submitted mileage reimbursement to both the state board and the school district for attending the same event in September.
As part of the censure motion, the Union board directed staff to further look into Savage’s mileage reimbursements during her time on the state board. The Union board then will decide whether the information should be turned over to “appropriate authorities,” such as the sheriff...
...Board chair Richard Yercheck called the issue “extremely disheartening and extremely disappointing.” and added, “If this board member worked for me in the private sector, they would be terminated” for such activity.
“We are here to teach children right from wrong,” board member Sherry Hodges said. “If you turn in a travel log, it is for reimbursement. It is not for profit.”...
The "censure" is pointless posturing. She either broke the law or she didn't. If she did then it's a matter for the authorities. If not, then they need to shut up and move on.

Oh my gosh, mark the date, Waldo and I are in 100% agreement on something. It must be a festivus miracle!

It started as a simple power play. If Savage had just cooperated from the beginning with the MR incident, they probably never find the reimbursement issue. The idea of law and "handing it off to the proper authorities" is the bonus prize.
Her effectiveness as a board member should matter... especially to those who just re-elected her in district 6.
