I question the city's logic in getting the 2017 NBA All Star game instead of the 2018 game. Far more hotels would be completed in 2018, and light rail extentions/upgrades would be completed in 2018. It seems to me that Charlotte would be better prepared in 2018. Aside from that, the list of things to come in Charlotte is very impressive.

Did Charlotte bid for 2018 or were they simply not chosen for 2018

Charlotte beat Portland for the 2017 game. So it seems, both cities had to bid for 2017 and/or 2018. I'm not sure if the cities had a say in which year they'd prefer.

The relatively small number of downtown hotels was a concern with both Charlotte and Portland. However, Charlotte has close to 1,900 hotel rooms either under construction or proposed in the downtown area.

Imagine how many cranes will be along Stonewall in a year or so. The parcel beside Crescent Stonewall, 615, Tryon Place, Charlotte Observer. Not too mention if they have multiple cranes.

Don't get me wrong, I LIKE that the theater itself is being restored to it's original style, and I'm also glad to see a very efficient use of space (25 stories on a postage stamp sized lot) but I feel like they could have created something modern, but still more complimentary to a historic site like this.
