Hi! My son will be attending Central Piedmont Community College (Midtown campus) in the fall, however the school does not offer housing options for students. I do not know much about the area and am trying to help find my son a nice apartment for as cheap as possible (a studio is preferred) near the college. Also, how much does it cost to use the light rail that runs through the campus? And does FAFSA help pay for rent?

the rail to CPCC is free. Best bet is to try and find a roommate and split the rent.

I recommend the same advice to try to split an apartment with a couple roommates. Check out craigslist, TR Lawing realty, MECA Properties and Henderson Properties as well as the complexes nearby.

The key will be finding a good roommate or 2 with similar values and habits.

The "light rail" that runs through campus is a streetcar (the Gold Line) that only runs for a total of 1.5 miles. It connects at one end to the Transportation Center, where one can depart/arrive on the city's bus system and the actual light rail system (the Blue Line). Fare information for buses and the Blue Line can be found here:

Try looking on Craigslist for apartments in the Elizabeth, Chantilly and Plaza Midwood neighborhoods.

CPCC also has multiple campuses. Some programs/classes may not be offered at the main campus.
