Seems to me like our weak mayor and weak police chief are responsible for the 'peaceful protests' getting out of control.
Very sad.
Seems to me the protestors are responsible for their own actions. What is sad is making excuses for people who willingly and knowingly violate the law.
Just saw her speak at the press conference. She said nothing.
"Charlotte is open for business. We're working to fix it."
How are we fixing it? What assurances for people coming are you giving?
I don't have all the answers myself, but damn, give us something.

Holy Smokes. I just watched the press conference and we are in big trouble if we have to count on this mayor. She looks like a deer in headlights. She sure threw the police chief, fire chief, medics under the bus instead of taking responsibility for the city.
Hope she will step up and lead but I am not holding my breath.
WSOCTV is reporting that Mayor Roberts is the one who refused additional support from local law enforcement agencies. I know that Charlotte with mutual aid from the Mecklenburg County Sheriffs Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies in Mecklenburg County could have handled this without the need of the National Guard but the leadership, communication, organization and manpower just wasn't there last night.
I do not have cable (news), thus my exposure to this event is (evidently) limited, as posters on this forum brought facts to bear that I was unaware of.
I'm gonna get hammered for saying this, but when I think riots, I think of Newark NJ (1968?); Bushwick Brooklyn (1977), or L.A. Watts (1991).
I see the past two days as a stress test of sorts. CMPD performed admirably.
But...and what I am about to say might anger some people (sorry if it does), but the past two days have been a drop in the bucket. I have not seen pictures of Downtown; I do not know the extent of the damage. But this event could've been far bigger, and far worse.
Mayor Tweet has not shown the type of leadership that's required for the job.
"Let's start a conversation"
"We need to have a conversation"
Text.
Consider. What if, God forbid, a national emergency occurs?
Atlanta has a much smaller population, and it's police force is larger by couple hundred officers.
The past two days have been a stress test.
