Hi Jan, With regard to options, I cannot really say - we were able to get an exceptional bargain on a spec house (previous buyer unable to complete purchase had already selected options and we had to close by 12/29/06) However, after closing, construction manager Lloyd has been extremely courteous and helpful in fixing some few, minor issues - mostly cosmetic touch-ups. My sister is now in the process of purchasing from MI as well. The community is not yet very built up, but is certainly on its way. I would estimate that the way sales have been going, maybe about 15 - 18 months until the lots are sold out and fully developed.

Regarding Quellin--- It is an awesome neighborhood with lots of kids, family oriented adults and a great school system. Regarding the issue with the sewer smell... I have lived in Quellin for almost 2 years and have never smelled anything with regard to the sewage situation. I think I wrote this on another log but it is worth repeating.... 2 women from the neighborhood were unhappy in the neighborhood and went straight to the press regarding an issue they had with the county. And all of a sudden our neighborhood was on the front page of the paper regarding this issue. The whole neighborhood was aghast... no one has ever had a problem, and trust me, we as a neighborhood community are outside all the time--- if we aren't hosting a scheduled neighborhood barbecue at the pool for memorial day and labor day... we are parading around the block with all the kids for 4th of July and Halloween. This community is very active but, I'm sure you can understand that sometimes there are people in this world that will never be happy and enjoy focusing on the negative.
Yes, there is a sewer plant near the neighborhood. There was a leak and it was fixed and the town has agreed to all sorts of measures including Caps on the containers.... the sewer situation certainly hasn't stopped Ballantyne Country Club from continuing to go up in value and they have the exact same system on the heals of their million dollar neighborhood. I hope that answers your question.
In short, the county has worked to rectify what was a very small issue that was blown way out of proportion to the benefit of some people who chose to focus on the negative.
Oh, njmom2... thanks for PM me about this blog... I bet you thought I fell off the world... no... just trying to get back in the routine after the holidays and school now back in full swing... lol... also, I know people had mentioned about price increases and we are starting to see them, an orleans home just re-sold in our neighborhood for $520,000- built in 2004. All the builder specs that are left.. just a few now, have increased again in price. Hope that helps.
My wife and I are thinking of moving from Ohio to NC, Cureton area (relatives nearby) and opening a guitar teaching studio. Are there already any convenient music instruction facilties or would this fill a need?
You wouldn't happen to be related to a Joe and Dorothy in Waxhaw, would you? I just remember a neighbor telling me of a relative thinking of moving in the area and opening a music store. If not, hello anyway and you will LOVE Waxhaw and the surrounding area. We moved here from Indy 2 years ago and I don't miss the weather in Indianapolis one iota! I lived in Dublin, Ohio from 1986 - 1989.
I live in union couty and I can tell you that that sewer plant smells in the summer time (and they are currently enlarging it).
If you have any questions about this don't listen to a realtor, call the EPA and ask the specialist that is in charge of sewer plants and air quality in NC.
She will tell you very clearly that they try to contain the smell but it is a sewer plant and it is going to smell sometimes - that is the nature of the beast. They will never fully contain the smell of a sewer plant in North Carolina. $300k+ is a lot to pay to have an overburdened sewer plant across the street (?)
Lawson and Cureton have different ammenities. We looked at Lawson and Cureton and have bought in Cureton. We love that the retail will be nextdoor, but most important we found the quality of the homes in our price range seemed to be alot better. Quality not quantity is what we like, and our house has a great floor plan including a large bounus room. The location right off Providence is great! Our house value has already increased greatly, with the retail it will only get better! The neighbors we have meet so far our wonderful! OH! and the air is great over here, we have had no problems with any odor from the plant.
