That would freak me out. Do they not have better things to do w/their time than to wake people up in the middle of the night to roll up their car windows?
They were being PROACTIVE - this is a good thing. Isn't it great to know they are out there in the middle of the night trying to stay ahead of the crime instead of following behind it?
I agree lovesmountains, it's a great thing that they are being proactive. I'm no criminal mastermind but if they windows were down they could have stolen the car even without the keys right? Or is that wire trick they show on TV and movies totally false?
Cops are trying to emphasize crime prevention. I would have crapped had I gotten that call. Not only that, I would have assumed it was a set up from some thugs who had bought themselves a car light and fake badges, LOL. I would have told them that I had to call 911 and get confirmation that they are really PD.
I think it is great that LE are patrolling and trying to prevent crime. For all I know, they had just had calls from the area about cars being broken into, so they were trying to make it difficult for thugs to continue the crime spree. Regardless, I would have been very dubious that it was legit and it truly would have freaked me out.
Just flashing lights doesn't mean it is really a police car. Thiose can be bought or rigged up - if you see the markings on the car it most likely is a real police car. Something to remember if you get stopped at night in a lonely area! Also, caller ID should show the police dept.
This was an unreasonable disturbance by the police. For one, they wouldn't come out if you had some CDs stolen from your vehicle. They wouldn't investigate it at all. For another, they could have left a note without scaring the bejeezus out of you warning you to keep your car locked.
This IS a very dangerous practice. Let's not forget that criminals often use the "this is the police" ruse to lure people out of their homes.

Oh, I completely agree - it would have freaked me out too! Or how was it Sunny put it - I would have told them they'd have to wait until I finished "peeing my pants", LOL!

How true is that? Heck we knew who stole stuff out of our car (we heard our cell phone ringing in the neighbors apartment) and they STILL wouldn't come out. "Just fill out the incident report please".
Ah...that explains it even better The Huntersville Police Department is VERY proactive - one reason why there is such little crime in Huntersville compared to other nearby areas.
