Afternoon all. My husband and myself will be driving from Florida to Morgantown, WV in two weeks to visit our son. The directions tell us to take I-77 through Charlotte for about 300 miles.
Here are my two questions:
1. Is I-77 a major highway or will it take us through small towns with lowered speed limit?
2. Is the gas situation in that area as bad as I have been reading about? Do you think we will have a problem finding gas on that road?

Thanks everyone. Have a wonderful afternoon.
I77 is a major interstate. You may have a bit of trouble finding gas in and around Charlotte - but not too much by then. We are predicted to be getting back to normal this week.
i-77 is an interstate and the slowest it gets down to is 55mph near uptown but everywhere else is 65 and 70mph. i wouldnt count on getting gas anywhere near charlotte. i live not too far off 77 and the few stations that do have gas have lines out into the street. im not sure of how far out this is going on though
If you could try to gas up in Wytheville VA it cheaper and different suppliers. Becareful and watch our for deer crossing and heavy fog on the mountains between Morgantown WVA and Wytheville.
If Im not mistaken and I think there a toll above Princeton.
We are not sure how long this gas crunch is gonna last. Media are reporting conflicting info. Some say it will take a month to get straightened out - some are saying their info indicates 10 days or less.
Check back in another week and we can probably give you a lot better idea about the situation here in the CLT region.
It's a good highway all the way up, but watch your gas because the exits where you can stop to get more don't always come up as often as you might hope.
I have a feeling this gas situation is isolated in Charlotte...
My sister went to Charleston from western NC this weekend and didn't have any problems getting gas. She said it was $3.82 in Wytheville. We have always stopped there to get gas on the way up and back at the truckstop. The area that can be foggy is Fancy Gap. I don't usually go up there early in the morning or after it gets dark.
The stretch from Columbia to the hill of rocks is pretty dull.
